Workshop Robotics for Kids

Robotics for Kids workshop was organized by Sarajevo ACM-W Chapter and IUS CSE/SE programs on 23rd of December, 2022.
The workshop was designed and given by our students: Ilma Kliko, Fahira Delalic, Fikreta Turanovic and Nurdzihana Sahinovic.
Our participants were children with varying ages from 6 to 14. The workshop introduced them the basics of robotics in a fun and interactive way.

In Robotics for Kids workshop mBlock was used. It is free software that helps kids learn to code through the drag-and-drop method.
Firstly, a presentation was given, explaining basic information about the components and software that will be used, including fun facts about robotics. And in the practical part, there were two groups:
Blinking LED project – Participants used mBlock and connected blocks, then connected components on the breadboard. The code and connection parts were provided to participants. After successfully implementing the code and component connection, the code was uploaded to the microcontroller Arduino Uno.
Semaphore project – The code for this part was not provided, but the component connection was provided to participants, and an explanation of the problem was provided. Participants needed to find a way to connect blocks so that when the program was uploaded to the microcontroller, Red LED turned on for 1 sec, then Yellow LED turned on after 1 sec, both LEDs would turn off, and the green LED will turn on for 1 sec.
