On December 23, 2022, the Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter organized a Robotics for Kids workshop at the International University of Sarajevo. The workshop was open to all genders.
The workshop was designed and led by students Ilma Kliko, Fahira Delalić, Fikreta Turanović, and Nurdžihana Šahinović. Participants were children aged 6 to 14, introduced to the basics of robotics using mBlock, a free drag-and-drop coding software.
After a presentation on components and software, participants worked on two hands-on projects. In the Blinking LED project, participants connected components on a breadboard and uploaded code to an Arduino Uno microcontroller. In the Semaphore project, participants were given the component connection but had to figure out the code themselves, programming a traffic light sequence with red, yellow, and green LEDs.
The workshop reflects the chapter's commitment to community outreach, investing in the next generation of computing professionals, including young girls, by introducing them to technology through fun and interactive activities.
