Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter

Supporting, celebrating, and advocating for women in computing in Bosnia and Herzegovina

About ACM-W

The Association for Computing Machinery's Council on Women in Computing (ACM-W) supports, celebrates, and advocates for the full engagement of women in all aspects of computing worldwide. ACM-W achieves this through scholarships for women in computing, the annual womENcourage conference in Europe, Celebrations of Women in Computing events organized by local communities, and a growing network of professional and student chapters. ACM-W Professional Chapters bring this mission to the local level, providing spaces for professional dialogue among academics, researchers, industry professionals, and students.

Our Story

The Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter was established in April 2022 at the International University of Sarajevo, at the initiative of Amal Mersni. The chapter was officially announced during the first Girls in ICT Day event on April 28, 2022, with the participation of Ruth Lennon, then Chair of ACM-W Europe.

Created under the umbrella of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Software Engineering (SE) programs within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), the chapter has since expanded its activities to include the Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (AIDE) program.

As a professional chapter, we bring together members at all career stages and invest in the next generation of computing professionals through workshops, outreach, and mentorship, creating pathways from the classroom to the profession. Our chapter is open to all members of the computing community who support the advancement of women in computing.

Our Mission

To strengthen the professional computing community in Bosnia and Herzegovina by connecting academics, industry professionals, and students through knowledge exchange, mentorship, and collaboration, with a sustained commitment to increasing the representation of women in computing.

Our Vision

To be a recognized professional community that drives the inclusion and leadership of women in computing across the Western Balkans, and serves as a bridge between academia and industry in the region.

Our Goal
