On April 28, 2022, the Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter organized Girls in ICT Day Sarajevo 2022 at the International University of Sarajevo, marking the International Day of Girls in ICT. The event aimed to encourage and inspire girls to pursue careers in information and communications technology. The event was open to all genders.
The event was opened by Zlatan Mujak, Head of the Investment Department at the Canton Sarajevo Ministry of Economy. UN Women Bosnia and Herzegovina were partners in organizing the event, with David Saunders, UN Women BiH representative, and Zerina Mandžo, IT Girls project associate, emphasizing the importance of empowering women in the IT industry.
Speakers from different IT fields shared their knowledge and experience: Raquel Martinez Hernandez, Cisco Networking Academy Technical Manager; Ruth Lennon, Chair of ACM-W Europe and Director of Craobh Technology Consulting; Oleksandra Yeremenko from the Department of Info-communication Engineering, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics; and Emina Brkanić, System Engineer at MIBO Komunikacije.
The event marked the official announcement of the Sarajevo ACM-W Professional Chapter, the first ACM-W professional chapter in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Girls in ICT Day remains one of the chapter's key community outreach activities, celebrating women in computing and inspiring the next generation.
